Patients with neurogenic TOS often exhibit normal or nonspecific findings on conventional electrophysiological testing and/or imaging studies, and are thereby identified on the basis of positive clinical findings and the exclusion of other conditions through a process known as differential diagnosis. Neurogenic TOS is characterized by compression of the brachial plexus nerve roots (C5 to T1) within the scalene triangle and/or subpectoralis space (see anatomy of TOS).
